Ardvreck is a cracking little school that we’re delighted to include for the first time this year. The benefits of an education in the Highlands are clear: weekly skiing trips when snow permits; getting muddy in the ‘dams and dens’ along the burns that run through the grounds; ceilidhs and Scottish-dancing classes; regular trips to Murrayfield... need we go on? Head Peter Sutton stresses that Ardvreck is primarily a ‘family school’. Pastoral care is a top priority (the head’s wife is a GP, which should calm nervy mothers), academic standards are high with senior school destinations including Harrow, Glenalmond, Uppingham and Oundle and they’re demons on the games pitch. Kilts, quite rightly, are worn ‘as often as possible’ – every Monday and for all special events.
