If Koh Samui is the yoga world’s Ibiza, then Kamalaya is its Pacha, attracting top-name teachers like wonder kid Danny Paradise (Madonna, etc). But while people might come to salute the sun, they do tend to get seduced by other treatments in this smart-hippie hotspot – Doctor Song, the chief acupuncturist, leaves sceptics converted and the traditional remedies are superb. The food gives detoxing a good name – Kai Mueller, the German chef, mixes up fab Thai cuisine with the healthiest of principles. A polished place but packed with personality.
